SA cement sales up 11,7%
South African cement sales grew 11,7% to 1,163m tons year-on-year (y/y) in February from 2,5% y/y in January, data from the Cement and Concrete Institute showed on Monday. Sales are up 4,9% to 2,057m tons so far this year compared with the same period last year, the institute said. Sales in Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia grew 9,5% y/y in February to 83,252 tons. Sales, at 171,520 tons in those countries so far this year, are up 4,2% on the same time last year. Exports to other countries, excluding Swaziland, Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia, jumped 161% y/y last month to 8,599 tons, bringing total sales since the beginning of the year to 15,312 tons – down 58,3% on the year-to-date sales last year. The moving annual total in South Africa was up 5,1% y/y in February to 14,221m tons, 15% higher to 1,198m tons to Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia, and 22,8% stronger to 191,678 tons in exports to other countries. In total, sales, including exports sales and sales in Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia, were up just 3,8% to 2,244m tons. |
