Relief as Koeberg opens again
Power utility Eskom on Wednesday confirmed that the Koeberg power station in the Western Cape has been returned to service following repairs to a unit shut down last month.
Eskom shut down Unit 2 at Koeberg Power Station on November 21 following a technical fault that required all the systems, saying it would take two weeks to complete the repairs.
"Repairs to the Koeberg unit have been successfully concluded," said Eskom.
The utility said Unit 2 had commenced generating electricity and was synchronised to the national electricity grid in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
"The unit is currently generating more than 75% of its capacity, sending out in excess of 690 megawatts to the national electricity grid," Eskom said.
Full operating load of 900 megawatts is expected around midnight. |
