A Cape Town company which hand makes cast concrete for table, vanity and kitchen countertops as well as other household and office fixtures, is looking for franchisees in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and elsewhere in South Africa.

Stoneform was founded in 2002 by the current CEO, Mitch Dunn, who employs up to eight semi-skilled labourers.

He says concrete counter tops and decor products have been widely used in the USA, Canada and Europe.

Stoneform products are handmade with white cement (imported from France) to which steel reinforcing is added for strength and oxides or other natural pigments to give the required colour. Almost any colour can be produced, the most popular being Sahara (an unpigmented wheat colour) and various shades of grey.

The finished product is honed, treated for stain resistance and sealed.

The countertops and vanity unit slabs are usually 60mm thick, i.e. twice the thickness of most marble and granite tops. There is no limit to the thickness in which these products can be manufactured.

It will require about R400k to establish a Stoneform franchise. Dunn undertakes to train the franchisee to a state of competency, and provide all the necessary administrative structures and functions to start his or her own operation.
